I was really torn with what to rate this. The music portion of the book is phenomenal and interesting but it was difficult to get past the treatment of women and the gaps in the story that he glosses over.

Whether you know much about Jazz or not, this book is an amazing read. These days, we think of Jazz musicians as nice old guys, but they weren't always old, and they weren't all too nice. Fascinating tales about EVERYONE you've pretty much ever heard of in the jazz world. Don't get hung up on all of the names - there are so many! Just focus on the stories, and enjoy.
