I am going to give this book 4 stars. It had interesting themes such as mystery, suspense, a marriage in jeopardy, and a story that didn't completely end with Ethan and Helen's HEA.

I initially planned to rate the book much lower. I realized it wasn't fair just because the book focused on one of my biggest pet peeves, and the fact I didn't care much for either of the main characters.

The lack of communication this couple exhibited lasted throughout the entire book. Ethan was not communicating with Helen. He just made decisions on his own. Helen wasn't communicating with Ethan. She spent a good deal of time thinking about what she wished she had said, how she should have continued a conversation, or how she should have been more assertive with her wants and desires.

In the case of this book, I can see where it would be a problem as their relationship began when they were teenagers. They married young and Ethan was deployed often during their 10 year marriage. I understood this. I understood people grow and change, especially during that 18-30 year old period. I wasn't sure how old Ethan and Helen were when she filed for divorce. It didn't make the entire situation any less irritating to me.

The other thing that bugged me was Helen felt she knew better than Ethan and Owen, the NAVY SEAL's! How did that even make sense? Another pet peeve. The inexperienced civilian asks for the experienced military person's assistance and proceeds to ignore their advice. Really?

I would recommend you read this book and judge for yourself. Maybe I am unable to be objective because the book hits on 2 things I dislike most in books. I am actually more interested in Owen and Sophie's story if they actually get a book.

I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy of this book received via Hidden Gems.

Helen had sent divorce papers to Ethan. After 10 years of marriage she was tired of being alone and not included in his decision making (when he decided to not take a training position). Ethan hurries home see Helen and try to fix his marriage. When he arrives back to their place it has been ransacked and he is arrested because they suspect he has something to do with Helen’s disappearance. Helen does come to station to clear Ethan. Helen explains that she believes her boss is doing something shady and that he is aware that she knows. Ethan and Helen go into hiding and while there Ethan tries to figure out how to save his marriage. Great story. I always love when the hero wants to try to work things out. This is a book with suspense, drama and a couple who have communication issues.

Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for this arc. The characters were great but the story did drag at times and I skipped some pages that I found a bit dull.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
MMC: Ethan- a NAVY SEAL who feels he owes dues to continue enlisting and staying away from his wife and the life he claims to want. Will the threat of divorce change his perspective?
FMC: Helen- a museum curator who stumbled onto a drug smuggling oration happening under her nose. Her and her friends go into hiding until they can find the evidence to find the head of the operation. All is going well until her husband comes home and puts himself in the middle of her investigation. Will he help or hinder?
POV: 2nd person, dual POV
HEA: yes
spice: a few open-door spicy scenes
TWs: cheating (small kiss recounted), death of parents (recounted), drugs, war/missions (recounted), divorce, accidental (wanted) pregnancy
standalone: Book 1 in the SEAL Protectors series
final thoughts: SEALS? Yes please! A good plot, a fun mystery, good side characters. I was suspicious of everyone and overall I think it was fairly easy to figure out whodunnit but I don’t think this was written to be a deep dive mystery so I didn’t mind. The miscommunication was KILLING ME though. Glad they were able to work it out but dannnnng.

adventurous challenging emotional fast-paced

Ethan written by Katie Knight was fast passed book filled with intense emotion.
Ethan is a SEAL who comes home for emergency leave when he is served divorced papers. Upon arrival of his home, he finds that his soon to be ex-wife Helen is in a heap of trouble as she discovers that her place of employment is smuggling drugs leading to multiple deaths.
Ethan and Helen are determined to save their marriage and there is a lot of back and forth that seemed repetitive on their feelings and unable to see eye to eye which was annoying. Altogether I did enjoy this book. The raw emotion from the characters gives more of an insight on those that are away on military leave and the unspoken issues that most are unaware of.
I received an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
