I was very excited to read this book. I really enjoy fantasy with vampires, werewolves, fairies or any magicalish creatures. I enjoyed the story. The only thing that kept me from liking this book was some of the inappropriate innuendos and scenes as well as language. I felt that some of that could have been done without. Maybe at some point in the future when I’m a little older I would enjoy this more. I would not recommend for anybody under the age of 14.

Update. I reread this a couple years after posting this review. When I first read this it was one of the first ya books I had read. It was a bit shocking to me how in your face some of the sex talk was. I enjoyed the actual plot line much more this time. And while I would prefer there was less of the sex mentions and inner monologue it wasn’t so shocking. I still would not reccomend it to under 14 year olds but do think it has potential

This book was quite entertaining but the writing was not the best. Most of the times we were told what happened rather than shown and many scenes were rushed through. So all in all i enjoyed the story but i hope the writing improves throughout the series.

A fast read with an array of fascinating characters. Although Dimitri is a pretty cool and awesome mentor, one I would gladly spend a couple of hours a day training with, not to mention sexy Russian accent, it's really Christian who has stolen my heart! Dear Christian, he's just so awesome I think he's too good for Lissa.

I really enjoyed the writing style and the voice of our main character, Rose. There wasn't too much plot in this one until the end, but I'm compelled the continue reading the series due to the likability of the writing and the characters

I really adored this one.;) I can't believe I've put this series on hold for such a long time! Rose was such a strong, quirky and confident character. Her relationship with Lissa was one that everyone should aspire to have with their friends, since in a lot of young adult novels the female protagonist almost always have mean friends but this relationship was refreshingly healthy! Rose was bold yet responsible and smart unlike a lot of female narrators in young adult. There is also Dimitri, my new fictional boyfriend.;) He's the perfect balance of wise, tough, and nice. Lissa went through some pretty hard times, but she still managed to pull through with the help of Rose. Though I felt Lissa as a character made some bad decisions, she still went though some much needed character development that managed to make me like her more.Besides the awesome characters, the writing was fantastic as well and the story line compelling.;) Richelle Mead did an amazing job with world building and dialogue that helped this book stand out from other vampire books. I can't wait to continue on with this series!
