"Awakened" is a sci-fi thriller that is entertaining and engaging. I enjoyed looking at the different P.O.V.s each chapter. I thought the action scenes were well-written, and yes you have typical characters (the reformed gangster, the shady politician), but that didn't bother me. The description of the creatures was really detailed and creeped me out, which I assume was the point. My only issue is there were a few too many additional characters that threw off the pace at times. But otherwise, this is a good weekend read, and I can't wait for the next two in this trilogy.

Let’s be honest, most people only pick this book up because they’re fans of Impractical Jokers. I think Murr is great on the show but I wasn’t expecting much from his book. I was right. I think it’s supposed to be a horror. I only stuck with it because I’ve already abandoned three books this year and I didn’t want to add anymore to the list. There was a lot of talking, too many characters and the book generally could have been shorter. I ended up skim reading it from about half way through. There were points when it did get better but then I got bored again.

Decent first novel. It will be interesting to see where he takes it in subsequent stories that might require more intrigue than action.

I am biased bc I LOVE stupid shit like this. Listen I liked it because it reminded me of the alien franchise. If it was set in New York and the monsters came from the cave systems. But anyways, I also enjoy survival trapped in one place stuff so ofc I liked this book. wait, Murray. Murray from impractical jokers wrote this book??? That’s insane. Good for him. Good for him for not overalls describing the womens bodies either. I was fully prepared for breast descriptions as most of the books like this and written in this style by a man do. But he didn’t. It was kept very clean. I could see it as a movie. Will I be reading book two? Probably not bc it looks like it’s just a regular old monster book set above ground. Where’s the excitement on that

Fun concept, but desperately needs more editing. Filler and misused words were downright distracting.

Started fine, but shit the bed halfway through. The dialogue feels very awkward, like he's writing for a movie and not a novel.
“You know the Hudson River?”
“Yeah . . .”
“We’re about to be part of it.”
Wasn't a fan of the pregnancy B plot. And there were definitely way too many characters. When someone would die, my first thought was "who?".
And WHY are Diego's internal thoughts weirdly racist?
Maybe I'm not the right audience for this, maybe you've gotta be a middle-aged patriotic New Yorker to really like this book. Who knows?

This book was ok… Ir is written by one of the Impractical Jokers Murr. He also narrates the book and I think that is what really throws the book off.
I fell like he really want to write a 80s SciFi Book and throw in every cliche that he could think of. I could not tell you anyones name in this book. I could explain most of the plot but the names there was so many people and his narrator voice made it hard to tell them apart.
I probably won’t be continuing with the series.
