Using muted colors for the illustrations, Bomb: Graphic Novel pulls readers into the true story of what went into creating one of the world’s deadliest weapons. The book starts with an engaging hook that is bound to leave readers asking questions and wanting to continue reading. Sheinkin stated in the “Author’s Note” that he pulled the main highlights from his traditional nonfiction title Bomb. There are clear relations between the two (2) books.

I found the epilogue to be especially intriguing, telling readers what happened in the lives of the prominent researchers after the graphic novel ends.

The only hesitation I have regarding this graphic novel is the font choice. Sometimes it was difficult to tell what the letters were, especially when using “u” and “il.”

I don’t read a lot of graphic novels, but I find them a fun change of pace. This one was done very well in a very important and tough piece of history. I enjoyed the way he somehow pieces it all together and made it make sense. If you are wanting to give your kid a quick easy way to learn history some of these are great.

I've been wanting to pick up Sheinkin's original narrative nonfiction book, Bomb, for quite some time. I'm glad I was able to learn the story through graphic novel format, and I know this will reach a whole new audience of readers. This book took a very complex topic and presented it in a way that summarized while still detailing.

The story is told in alternating perspectives of spy interrogation in the 1950s while flashing back to the creation of atomic bombs throughout 1940s. There was incredibly intense material, including the dropping of the bombs in Japan, but everything was shared in an age appropriate way. This would be a great way to introduce students to the basics of the a-bomb's history and the beginnings of the Cold War and Arms Race. I'm interested in now trying the chapter book to see what more information was included.

The original version is pretty much perfect, and this definitely does not improve upon it… but it’s still excellent.
