I liked both main characters, eventhough it took them a long time to figure out what compromizing really means.

But the dad?! If I was that man's wife I would have clocked him with a iron pan a long time ago. Such a stubborn old jackass.

The Matheson dad is just too much. He was way too mean and just plain horrible in this book. I have really enjoyed this series but the Matheson patriarch is disturbing. I mean truly psychotic. I do not see him as a loveable and gruff father but sociopath who is overbearing, archaic and controlling.

I hated Holt in this, his constant blackmailing quickly turned from old man trying to help out in an odd way, to old man controlling people and manipulating everyone. I hated Ned being a childish little twerp, even if they were all shits to each other, they're like 30 and he pipes up constantly in a smarmy condescending way to 'dob' on his brother. Hannah shit me up the wall because she kept calling Jake selfish because he didn't outright say 'I want you to move away for 4 years' like no duh he doesn't accept being apart for that long he loves you. In fact she was so selfish to the very end and it infuriated me. He said he'd go to college and she's ranting about how he didn't cook dinner for her or ask how her day went and then runs into 'you expect me to stay home with kids so you can go to college' when hats exactly what she expected of him? And he was legit just trying to stay closer to her. Also, she was like 'I'm so moody I must be pregnant' and 'my pants don't fit I'm pregnant' and she'd been sleeping with him A WEEK. THATS NOT HOW IT WORKS GIRL.
Spoilerand then she gets her period and feels stupid. Like, your period makes you hormonal and bloated and that's a way more viable option she's just crazytown.

I'm actually unsure if I'll finish this series now. I dislike Ned so much that I don't care if broody pants gets Fila, which I usually like broody people but he's legit a fucking brat. And while I wanted Mia's story I didn't care for Luke either because he just came across as thick headed and I wasn't interested in him. So yeah, guess I'll see.

The Cowboy Lassos A Bride (The Cowboys of Chance Creek # 6) by Cora Seton is 2014 publication. I was provided a copy of this book by the author/publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Jake Matheson's father has thrown down the gauntlet. Get married in a month or lose his position on the ranch. Jake lives and breathes the Double- Bar-K. He can't imagine leaving it. It just so happens he might have a chance at pulling off a marriage on short notice if the beautiful Hannah Ashton will give him a chance. Hannah has also been given an ultimatum by Holt Matheson. She needs a place for her Bison. If she agrees to spend two weeks with Jake - all night in the same bed, Holt will give her the land she needs. So, the race is on. Jake and Hannah go at it hot and heavy until it becomes a possibility that there may have been a condom malfuction and Hannah is nearly positive she is pregnant. The other issues at hand are that Hannah plans on pursuing her dream of becoming a Veterinarian no matter what. That means four years in Colorado attending school. Jake is not happy about those plans but then he gets some good advice and things look like they might work out after all. But, of course Jake's plans hit a snag and Hannah finds out Holt has practically forced Jake to marry. Will Jake be able to convince Hannah he really loves her and wants to marry her even if he has to give up the ranch?
While it might offend your sensibilities that a man would go around controlling the lives of his grown sons, Holt is the best there is at it. He may come off as sexist and harsh, but if you stick with the story you will understand more about him. These Chance Creek novels are always a treat. They are light hearted contemporary western romances that place a lot of emphasis on family. All families have their moments of selfishness and stubborness. Some seem to pull more weight than others and some are more sucessful than others, there are arguements and hurt feelings, maybe a few tears, but when it comes to getting something done they all pull together to help one another. I think that's what makes these stories so appealing to me. I love the sexy hot cowboys and the steamy romance, but I also like the way everyone comes together through thick and thin, which is what family is all about.
Overall I give this one an A.

Hannah Ashton wants to be a veterinarian and she plans to go to school in Colorado. She'll start next semester and be gone for 4 years. When she returns she'll join Bella at her practice. All Jake Matheson ever wanted to do was run the Double-Bar-K ranch when his father steps down. Leave it to Holt to start messing with his son's lives again. He tells Jake that he's to be married by the time he's 24 or he has to leave the Double-Bar-K. He's got one month to find a suitable woman and convince her to marry him. Easy...right?

Holt may be rough and gruff and he may go about everything the wrong way but I have to admit, he does get results. Those results may not be exactly what he's looking to accomplish but they're close enough. I'm so glad the author stood strong and didn't let Hannah waiver on the college thing too much.

We all know the outcome of HEA's. It's the special way this author brings these couple's together and their struggles to get where they want to be that make the Cowboys of Chance Creek so fantastic. As long as Cora Seton's writing, I'm reading!
