I really enjoyed reading this and getting to know Harris’s journey from the ground up.  Politics are so complicated and messy, but I’ve always felt drawn to Harris because she stands for a lot of the things I believe in.  Reading this confirmed that she has always stood for and fought for those things.

This book was really informative and interesting. I just have a hard time with non-fiction books because they just make me so sad and frustrated, but it’s still all important things to be aware of.

Spotify gets me once again with being 30min away from finishing a book when my audiobook listening time runs out lmao. So weeks later I have now finally finished this one! It’s narrated by Harris which really added to the experience since she’s a wonderful storyteller.

Being a Bay Area kid & remembering Harris throughout the years, it was interesting to hear the background of many moments I can recall. She didn’t include the shortcomings around her prosecutor days which was disappointing but expected. I enjoyed hearing about her upbringing & her mother who I know has been a huge inspiration & influence for her.

I wished there was more storytelling about Harris’ early life than listing of big milestone accomplishments. While of course important, it clearly felt to me like a book by a politician? Bahah like calculatedly vulnerable enough to seem like a person but not too much, and the heavy focus of career wins & preaching on the importance of human rights/basic equity…it was well done but clearly was published in 2019 for the moment in the future for her next campaign. A lot of things around hot topics & moments in recent history from her perspective, but nothing revolutionary that we haven’t heard.

If you’re wondering who you’re casting a vote for when you vote for Kamala Harris, simply take a listen to this brilliant memoir and all the ways she uses her sense of justice to guide her every decision. We need compassionate and clever leadership and you won’t find anyone more committed to The People than this talented, smart, caring woman.

Kamala Harris credibly told her background story including her family experience and why she became an attorney, a prosecutor, a district attorney and a U.S. senator. Harris described her guiding principles and actions she took in furtherance of those ideals such as in dealing with mortgage lenders. The book was written before she was Vice President and before the George Floyd death occurred. Her position on Black Lives Matter and supporting both victims and conducting law enforcement in an equitable manner was powerful. Harris was articulate in describing nuanced balancing of interests while advocating for the retention of dignity. There are quite a few themes that come through in her current presidential campaign. 4 stars and recommended reading for those wanting to know more about Harris or what she belies in as expressed in her own words.
