I think it's helpful to read this book as a historical reference, as a first-of-its-kind in self help. As science and self-help has evolved, there are other resources that are more nuanced and evolved. Otherwise, it serves more as a long text-based infomercial for AA and similar programs.

I just skimmed the second half. There's a lot of filler.

Dated. Mostly for people living with alcoholics and addicts. Found examples too simplified, a bit remote from real life. The book gave no real solutions, no plan, no real advice.

This book didn’t really give me anything actionable to do, but it’s been important for me to learn about codependency and take the time to sit with the concept so I can better recognize my patterns and disrupt them.
