What a great middle grade adventure!! 2 sisters wander into a magical land and meet a spoilt prince who they befriend. He tries to help them find their way home and we see what’s going on in the background with the king. I loved Subee (sp?) the medical skret, and the giant, both of their voices were really well done on audio too. Looking forward to continuing this series

4/4.5 stars.

A fantastic magical story filled with adventure. I did struggle to fall in love with many of the characters, which was a shame. The world itself was beautifully constructed and I adored the story, I just hoped for more from the characters who at times just fell a little short for me.

I do look forward to the sequel though and what will happen.

Fans of twisted fairytale's, Alice In Wonderland-esque vibes and little girls being the hero's - this book is for you.

Did not live up to the description or reviews I read. It was overly graphic on the violence for the age group and myself as an adult. The illustrations are the only reason I gave it one star at all because the writing was boring and characters and world were very underdeveloped and barely described.

A really good fantasy read, a little dark in places so it's certainly for slightly older children and above. But I enjoyed the story!

A Clock of Stars: The Shadow Moth

I had read the second book in the series before I had read the first but it was so beautifully written that I just swallowed in this world. it was so amazing and breathtaking.
I loved it so so much that I had to read the first one and I wasn't disappointed at all.

The first book in an amazing trilogy(Yep there's a third book coming!!) begins with 2 sisters.
One day Imogen discover a secret world called Yaroslav through the door in the tree, she was just exploring, following a moth. She didn't expect to find a whole new world in a tree. What she also didn't expect was her sister Marie following her into the world and then closing the door behind her locking them both in this unknown world.
Now they must find a way home. Helped by the spoiled prince of the kingdom, a dancing bear and a very grumpy hunter.

This book is truly wonderful and deserves a million stars.
It is just full of new wonders and funny characters.

In this first book of A Clock of Stars series, we meet two sisters who follow a moth through a door in a tree and find themselves in different world. Every night this world is overrun with monsters. Together with a lonely prince, the sisters must figure out how to get back home, and they just might solve a mystery or two along the way.

Francesca Gibbons has created a rich, new world for this series. There are Eastern European references—the city being called Yaroslav. I also felt some of the great authors of Britain were referenced, from the sublime high fantasy of Tolkien to the ridiculous of Lewis Carroll. And there was plenty of adventure!

I did feel the book could have been tightened up a bit. It’s a big book at 477 pages. I struggled to really get into the story at the beginning. But that may also have been due to the fact that I found two of the three main children rather annoying. I will say that character growth occurred and I did end up liking all three. Regardless of those small quibbles, I did enjoy this book and am excited to see what happens next!
