My favourite of the trilogy. A good balance between the political intrigue and the romance (more a subplot). Loved the banter and gradual change in feelings. Too bad it didn't carry into the next book.

This is my second time reading “The Wicked King,” but my first time listening to it on audiobook.

The second book in Holly Black’s “Folk of the Air” series is a rich fantasy story that balances the wonder of fairyland with its dark mythology.

The first book in the series, “The Cruel Prince,” took its time to establish the world and let the readers get to know the characters. While the build up was slower than some might expect, it offered more solid ground for Black to be able to further the trilogy’s plot in “The Wicked King.”

This was an outright masterpiece honestly. I loved it, the twists and turns, the way the plot completely surprises you, the writing, and the characters were all absolutely fantastic to read. A wonderful sequel!

I'm so glad I decided to stick with the series, this book was totally worth it! The 'enemies to lovers' trope is done well for once, because can you call someone your enemy without them having tried to kill you? The plot twists, the betrayals!! *chef's kiss*

If you like plot-heavy fantasy you will love this, if you enjoy character development or romance you will not....
The ending was disappointing, with very little character development for Cardan, I thought he had changed and then turns around to fuck her over again, i am also annoyed at Jude's attitude overall by the end
