Things are finally coming together, but there were a lot of characters and remembering how they tied into dream. The damn forward basically gave away the ending of the book. So when the big thing happened, I already expected it. I mean it was leading to it, but you have that hope it won’t happen. Now the act was muted, not much surprise. Why the hell would you give away the big surprise plot line in the beginning when it wasn’t part of the story.?

Still great book! Loved it.

This story arc brings everything together and fulfills the promise of death made in Worlds End. I very much enjoyed the change in art style, and I think it allowed the artists to create some very expressive and moving imagery, especially in depicting Lyta's descent into madness as she pursued revenge. The title page of issue 60 is particularly powerful, and there are some fantastic panels throughout. Unfortunately, Morpheus ended up looking pretty goofy most of the times he appeared. The painting-like art in The Wake is probably the most beautiful this series gets, but I think the simpler and more stylized art here is just incredibly effective at telling its story.

I think that this volume might be a contender for my favorite Sandman story. There are lots of little Easter eggs that hatch to guide and sometimes form the plot, which was exciting to read. The illustrations are often remarkable for how they turn a character inside-out, too. And, most pleasing of all, this is a mighty hefty volume, and so very useful for "stunning burglars."

Finally, the end of the journey. This is where it all culminates, all small plot strings join into the grand finale. This is probably the best book of the series... or a close second!
