Is this a modern classic? Idk, maybe. It's definitely a culty kind of look into the darker side of lady friendships and the haughtiness of academia. Insular people are terrifying and yet fascinating. Hi Bunny.

This book has definitely sent someone into psychosis

OR

Mean Girls if it was psychological horror

OR

If it's possible to have a bender in book form I just did

OR

I had to stop part way through and seriously ask myself if I had taken psychedelics before reading this and forgot

First of all, Bowie didn't have two different coloured eyes, he had one permanently dilated pupil which made one eye look darker than the other. Both eyes were blue.

Second of all, I can't with the amount of similes constructed "like so many (fill in the blank)" or "like so much (fill in the blank)." Please stop.

Third of all, what did I just read? Do we hate MFA programs, love them, love-hate them, know them so well we can make the inside critique? Maybe all of the above. (Also, anybody else getting Verses Written with a Diamond from the Duchess? Elizabeth I? Who is getting that reference? ...Me apparently.)

The writing kept me reading as much as it put me off. Which may be the point of a horror novel set in academia, so I can't justly complain about that.

It's a trip, and it's a quick read, so if you're interested in academia, warped realities, rituals and animal sacrifice, as well as the complex balance (intersection?) between the creative process and manifesting desire, this could be the book for you.
