I really enjoyed this book, but the constant back and forth just got a bit repetitive. Definitely worth the read though!

I really enjoyed reading about them. Their story held a lot of unexpected plot twists and a lot of opposite ideals to normal books in this genre.
Like her not being a virgin.
That being said they also had a lot of cliche in then and I didn't enjoy the constant on and off. It also felt very surface level and we never really got to their core.
Over all I really enjoy the story and it had a nice flow, the chemisty was good and the couple was cute.
I didn't enjoy have insensitive most of the characters were regarding anything they hadn't gkne through themselves cause it felt very unrealistic. To some it up it was a good book.

DNF at 44%

My first ever DNF this year (yikes)

Hear me out, I definitely want to really go through with it because it tackles an important issues such as eating disorder (and more) and a very neglecting parent but I just couldn’t.

The writing isn’t just for me, it was so far agonizing and boring for me, I just want it to stop.

It’s not your typical age-gap. Well done!

This was a great book. I loved it so much that after I read it in KU, I bought it. I wanted to make sure I had access to it at any time.

It's an age gap, but it’s not your typical age gap story.

It’s well-written, with believable dialogue and excellent character development.
It’s a slow burn, but the slow burn was well done. I literally fell in love with the words written.
None of the plot felt forced. Everything flowed really well. There were no jarring moments that took me out of the story.
I couldn't put it down.

I will probably go ahead and buy the audiobook at some point, too, because I drive a lot and it would be nice to listen to this while traveling.

So if you’re in a reading slump, as I was, please check this out. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

And a P.S. to the author, if you see this. The cover is perfect. It’s swoon-worthy. I’m so glad it wasn’t one of those cartoonish covers that’s been popular of late.

Honestly unsure about how to rate this book. 3 is probably the highest I would give and 2 the lowest. Maybe it should be somewhere in between, but I can't decide.

Like:
  • Jude, for the most part.
  • Instant attraction yet slow burn romance
  • Exploring what people want in life at 18 vs. 34, etc.

Dislike:
  • A lot of the conflict doesn't seem genuine. I know this is a fictional story, but I want the characters and their flaws and their conflicts to feel genuine and organic. Unfortunately, this story reads like it's made up and sometimes a little over-the-top.
  • I won't go into detail in case my own experience with mental health isn't comprehensive enough to have an opinion on this, but I felt like the mental health part of the book was written by someone who researched mental health issues without ever experiencing them. Which is fine, I don't want or expect everyone to experience mental health issues, obviously. But I experience some of the mental health issues mentioned in this book and was a little confused about how they were approached.
  • This was my first age-gap romance (I think) so I made sure to keep an open mind going into this story. I think the age difference and the slippery slope of romance with an 18 year old still in high school was handled decently, but at the same time I feel like it devolved into a giant miscommunication trope. It went from interesting in the very beginning to annoying and boring by the end.
  • There's spice in this book, but not a lot of it. I'm totally fine with that, but
WHY do they keep mostly hooking up while one of them is recovering from a hospital visit?!
