Callie and her brother are uprooted by her mother to her mother's childhood hometown when a horrible tragedy befalls their family. Once there, they fall in with a group of troublemakers who they quickly discover are really a hungry, lustful group of vampires.
One of my absolute favorite movies of all time is The Lost Boys. Don't care if you're judging me, it is. When I came across this book as something to read if you like The Lost Boys, I had to snag it. I figured it would be pretty similar... but I was hoping more for its own story and less of a copy?
I liked diving into the "LGBQT+" aspect more in the book because let's be honest, it was right there at the surface in the movie. I mean, there was some serious tension between David and Michael, and Sam was just his own beautiful self. So, I was here for that aspect, even though at points it felt forced.
There were inconsistencies that took me out of the story, especially when it came to trying to force the book plot to meet the movie plot expectations. Especially the end, so much the end. And then there was so much character and plot building up for most of the book and then the last portion was so rushed. Like, the main character passed out in the final boss fight? Whaaaaat?! I would have liked this so much if the ending was completely scrapped and a new ending brought in.
But I did enjoy this for what it was, a fan fic to Lost Boys. It's a fun addition to the library.

Queer homage to The Lost Boys, is how I'd describe this. Fun read that stumbled towards the end and missed the finish line for me. The last 50 pages felt rushed, and the ending was a little disappointing in its simplicity, but what can I say. I am trash for scary vampires, and this novella shows such promise! I sort of hope the author delves into vampires again, but more sinister and complex than this short read.

I was super excited about this, but it went at lightning speed and a lot of the plot is super easy to miss. I also didn't feel connected to any of the characters except for the main girl.

If the Lost Boys crossed over with Anne Rice as a Goosebumps novel...but Goosebumps for queer kids who like a healthy dose of sex. I wanted more from this one, but I also don't think I'm the target market here.
It's fun, even if it's not original but it does push the envelope for how much "inspiration" one can take from a popular film. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone but teens.
