It seems to be me and not the book!

Although they did fall in love pretty quickly.

The world building was great though.

It looks like it won't make the cut to continue the series.

Ooof, this was a doozy. Kindle Unlimited recommended it to me so I thought, "why not?" The title was interesting.

Bad dialogue, super cringe moments, and character motivations that change so quickly that I got whiplash. The novel wants the MMC to be so stoic, duty-bound, and cold, but within 10 minutes he's obsessed with our FMC and forgets that the person for which he is supposed to devote his life to (a queen) was kidnapped. I think the plot realized that having a real struggle and conflict about duty vs. love would delay the "romance" so it decided to have both simultaneously but it doesn't work.

I gave an additional star to the rating because this book didn't make me angry and I found myself giggling at how bad the dialogue was or how nonsensical it could be.

Ugh this was good but I really wish it had been more slow burn. The romance got a bit too sappy/cringey by the end. "I will never leave you." "My parents did." Ma'am what??? Now is not the time for that random trauma association?? That felt so odd and out of place like I cannot believe she said that lmao.

That all said, I really loved the FMC!! She was a badass but still realistic as a person, and I liked how she refused to be a damsel.
Also love how she didn't even bat an eye at literally almost dying. Just casually encouraging her man to cut her open and shove a tube into her lungs like damn okay.
The man was fine. I felt like the insta-love didn't fit with his character. Slow burn would've brought a lotttt more angst. The dialogue and descriptions also got a bit repetitive sometimes. There was one page where these alien dog creatures were described to us (the reader), and then the man described them to the FMC a few lines later literally verbatim. I'm assuming that was an editing mistake maybe??

Who was my favorite character though??? BEEP!!!! I fucking loved Beep lmao. Absolutely stole the show.

The plot was good! Fun little space book. Very ~tense~ and dramatic. Would've been more dramatic if the MCs weren't so lovey dovey though. The insta-lust was annoying (though I'm hesitant to call it insta-lust because it honestly wasn't thaaat horny. They were just attracted to each other. The horniness showed up at a reasonable time later on, and it wasn't over the top. Just kinda sappy).

Had some banger quotes too, such as "he looked hot and that annoyed her." I too am annoyed by hot men who put me in jail immediately after kissing me. We love trust issues.

Oh speaking of annoying, the characters were kind of annoying about their trauma... like... sorry that nobody loved you as kids but like... did we really need to bring it up as often as we did? Bc it was VERY often. Like. Veryyy often. And it wasn't even relevant to the situations like they would flat out just say it. It would've been much more impactful if it was a little nuanced, ya know? There aren't many grown adults who just walk around telling people "yeah my parents didn't love me enough as a kid." "Yeah I can tell but trust me you're enough! You matter just as you are <3" Like I'm sorry but ya'll JUST met like 2 days ago so... kind of a weird convo to be having... while being hunted by carnivorous alien wildlife...

Still a good book though!

Really enjoyed this introduction to a new series and reintroduction to the Oronis Knights!

We kick things off on an Earth ship with an Earth ambassador and his wife, the Earth Sub Captain Kennedy, as well as Eve from Earth and her husband/mate Davion from Eon (Eon Warriors Series). Shortly after the Earth ships arrives to Oron, the Knightqueen Carys is kidnapped with her bodyguard. Earth is being framed so Kennedy volunteers to go with Ashtin, a Knightmaster, in search of her.

I really enjoyed both Kennedy and Ashtin. Anna Hackett always writes such enjoyable characters and both of theirs pasts/upbringings allow them to connect and mirror each other in a nice way. Kennedy is curious and always ready to learn and experience something new. Ashtin is stoic and rigid in his beliefs and duties to his Queen. Like most of Hackett’s stories, we follow along as the heroes are stuck together trying to save the day.

One semi-complaint is that I loved Beep and was really hoping to see more from him! Would love to see a similar situation with him as what happened with Wren’s computer Sassy in Heart of Eon!

Also really looking forward to this series and I’m anticipating a length similar to Galactic Kings since there doesn’t seem to be too many more characters to be introduced to as well as what appears to be one large overarching main problem that will be resolved in the series finale.

Tropes
  • Strong independent woman
-New alien species

My Thoughts Nice alien romance. She's a confident, strong woman who loves learning about new cultures and is sent as a delegation from Earth. He's an alien dedicated to his Queen and his life as a knight. I like that their relationship followed a more normal structure, they had sex before the everlasting love. World building made sense and I am curious to read the next book

Triggers -Kidnap -Mentions of being abandoned in childhood

Representation Nope

Spice Spice is present but not that much of it. Well enough written but not stand out

Special Notes Robot side kick who I would have liked to have seen more of

Wow. Her last series was okay, but this one... just one action sequence after another with no chance to really get to know either of the characters. I only read this last week, and I already can't remember their names. I love action and a female lead who can kick butt but need more substance.
