Okay, so first of all, this is a short book. That being said, there is a LOT going on in these 207 pages. Lacey crafts a wonderfully eerie and somewhat dreamlike main character while most of the other characters seem so real and relevant it's unsettling, like a situation you can't look away from. Religion, politics, race, immigration, gender, identity, philosophy, you name it. It's in this book. And Lacey has written it in a way that I think will look different for every reader. Everyone will see something different in Pew, the character, and their wandering thoughts that seemed to gain more substance to me as I read. Another reviewer mentioned this book as "holding up a mirror" and I think I agree with that. The ending, though, I'm still not sure I grasped completely (the festival was definitely unsettling, however, especially with all the half answered questions!) but I don't think we were meant to...

The lack of finely detailed world-building in favor of an amorphous Anytown, USA works to Lacey's favor to get her message across that really, who are any of us truly?
