I really enjoyed this book! There were several twists, and I never guessed the ending! The plot was great and I felt connected to Stella. Definitely would recommend this read! I always love reading a book and finding the part where the title makes sense.

House of Glass is a terrifying story that you won’t be able to put down as Stella Hudson, a best interest lawyer for children during custody disputes, tries to learn as much as she can about 9 year old Rose Barclay’s family and what really happened the day Rose’s nanny fell to her death from a third story window. The more she learns the more she questions the guilt or innocence of all of the family, including her 9-year-old client Rose. One thing is abundantly clear, Stella always has Rose’s best interest at heart and even if Rose has done something truly awful she, not her family, is the best chance for Rose to get meaningful help.

As I absolutely loved Gone Tonight by the same author I was keen to read/ listen to this book asap.

I had the audiobook read by Laura Benanti who does a good job.

This is the second book I’ve read about child protective services, this is court appointed best interest attorney Stella who is investigating where Rose the appointed child’s best interest lies after her Nanny died in suspicious circumstances. The previous book concentrated more on the court procedure (Between the Lies Louise Tickle for anyone curious)  This one is more investigative than court based.

Of course there are plenty of secrets, lies and twists it wouldn’t be a psych thriller without. It’s got a good pace. It kept me entertained, there’s a couple of dodgy decisions (nothing new there). There’s  characters to love, hate and be suspicious of, sometimes all three.

I didn’t love it as much as Gone Tonight, but I enjoyed it.

In House of Glass, Sarah Pekkanen is back with another domestic, slow-burn novel of suspense. (NOT a thriller). We have a family, a dead nanny who might have been murdered, several suspects, and a lawyer, who is tasked with helping decide what will happen to the child involved. This is told in first person present tense, which I usually don’t enjoy, but in this case, it worked well. Pekkanen is a talented writer, very good at creating interesting characters and a plot with some unique elements. I did guess some twists pretty early on, and the plot just didn’t really hold my interest in the same way as her previous novel, so this will be a three star book for me. Thanks NetGalley and St Martin’s Press for letting me read an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
