The start draaaaaaagged for me, and I found that none of the women seemed like people instead of cardboard cutouts for the protagonist to project onto. That said, I really liked the third act and always want to read more Jewish stories.

I read nearly half of this book in one sitting. Incredibly entrenching read, fascinating thoughts that quarrel with God in every possible way imaginable. The characters were alive, albeit some of the cast sometimes got mixed up in my head, but I loved Aryeh's point-of-view and how simply odd he was, as so was Evan. I think Evan Stark may be one of my favorite characters in fiction in a while. I love a tortured genius.

I really loved this book. Captures the feelings of high school so well. Extremely philosophy heavy. I go back and forth about the series of tragic events I the last quarter of the story and whether or not they are too much with such fast pacing.

It seemed to me like half the book was dedicated to describing teenage exploits and the other half to hard-to-follow philosophical analysis. I think it would be more enjoyable to someone who feels connected to Judaism (or maybe any religion).
