Hmmm. Rather short tale that tried to pack too much content into a few short pages. We don't know why Evan runs nor do we find out the details surrounding his family. We get hints but nothing solid. We don't know why Kyle is such a jerk. Brin alludes to it at one point, but again, merely hints. The fact that it's Christmas seems like an afterthought. And when did Brin tell Evan what type of work he did. So this was ok but felt like I never really understood what was going on.
