I have been reading this author since I was a child. The first book I read by this author was Around the World in 80 days, which I've read to the point where I've lost count of rereads. Now years later, I've decided to pick up Jules Verne's Journey to the Centre of the Earth.

The novel was initially published in French 1864 when there was little known about the environment and geography.

The book follows German professor Otto Lindonbrock who is convinced that volcanic tubes lead to its core. The German professor navigates into the Icelandic volcano with his nephew—the two characters remarkable anthropological discoveries. Only to end with them exiting a volcano just off the coast of Italy.

Like Jules Verne's other works, the Earth's centre's journey is an exemplar of 19th-century science fiction. Thus, the themes discussed in the novel are a little outlandish to modern readers. However, to the 19th-century audience, the concept of geographical exploration towards the Earth's crust be fascinating.
