The magic of Sherlock Holmes still lives.

This is a mammoth read, but a thoroughly enjoyable one. While there have been many adaptations of Holmes since it's publication it is a pleasure to read the original stories and feel the excitement that they must have generated at the time of their publication.

All of the stories are told from the perspective of Watson as he writes them for publication, sometimes years after the fact. In contrast to some adaptations, I found the relationship between Holmes and Watson to be heartwarming and I enjoyed seeing the two together. Also, seeing and learning about Holmes' deductive skills is somewhat inspiring and, except for the parts which have been scientifically disproven, one wants to try by themselves.

Although this is only the first volume, and it is a long, hefty book to get through, I daresay I will be picking up the second volume in the future.
