You know a book is good when you ask your six year-old if they want to read another chapter together and they say "Yeah!" with gusto. My son really likes these and I do too. They make him laugh out loud and the mysteries are compelling for the chapter-book set. My favorite thing about them is how the kids *aren't* snarky or sassy with grown-ups.

One of the first chapter books I remember reading on my own. My first-grade teacher started reading it to us, but even at six years old I was impatient to know what happens, so my dad took me out to buy it at the book store. He made me read a few pages just to make sure I could actually read it and wasn't memorizing from what the teacher had read. I remember that so well! :)
