I feel like this was one of the weaker Pern books. I just felt like I didn't really connect with most the characters enough to care about their stories much, so I never became invested enough for most the emotional beats or challenges in the book to feel like they mattered a ton.

This story is divided into two parts. It started out pretty good, but by the time the second part started, it was driving me nuts. I didn't like the two "T" characters and the story just slogged along with large parts about them. Finally in the last two chapters things picked up and got interesting again (the two "T's" were not there) and I enjoyed the ending.

But listening to Dick Hill was, as always, amazing.

I really like her books, and I think this is the 18th or something like that that I've read. It's taking me longer than normal because I also started "Three Bags Full" after starting this, so I guess I'm reading them both at the same time. I usually try not to do that, but I got "Three Bags Full" on vacation and started reading it before I remembered I was already reading this. Oh well...about the actual book, it's really good so far.

I kept trying to figure out if I'd already read this, read bits of the story from alternate viewpoints, or whether Todd was just majorly derivative. I can't tell you what I thought of the story, because it was all giving me a strange sense of deja vu.

Quite a nice, easy read.

I was a bit confused about the ages of the protagonists though - at some points they seemed to be described as pretty young, but then they are also having sexual relationships. Which was a bit weird.
