A twisty thriller. When a bunch of seemingly on related people are invited to a weekend getaway in the mountains by a journalist, it becomes pretty clear that somebody is trying to uncover the secrets from the past. A group of high school teens were brutally murdered as a group. The only one to survive is the girl who left early. Did she have anything to do with it? Does she know anything more about it? Or is she going to uncover more than she had bargained for all along? Sort of in the same pattern as a dinner party murder mystery this thriller has all guests guessing who will be next and who is the real danger.

I find that I sometimes like low-rated horror books, but low-rated thrillers? There's usually a reason for that! But this time, I don't get it, and this is why I still pick up lower-rated books. I had so much fun with this! Really my only quibble was with the main character and some of her actions - thinking it was leading up to something but it really wasn't - she just be like that, I guess. But it wasn't egregious enough to ruin the story for me. This is such a summer afternoon book. No thoughts, sun shining, drink in hand. You've just had a pleasant day. It's not a "cozy mystery," but it feels like a cozy reading experience.

This book starts with a retrospect. We see a girl who decided to walk away from a peer gathering in a cabin. Something happened that made her leave, but we donĀ“t know what. She just decided to walk away, catch a bus, and go back home. This is the strongest part of the book.
Then the setting changes and we have a bunch of people stuck in a house on the side of a mountain. Nothing is as it was supposed to be and it gets only worse.
It would be such a great story if not the fact, that the story itself, the reasoning, the ending, and the characters are not convincing at all.
Has anyone noticed that the weather clears up right when the mystery gets solved? How convenient.

There were sections that were really interesting and attention grabbing, but it also dragged a bit and could have been shorter.

This was a wild ride and I knew that no good was going to come of this reunion! And I was right! But at least the "bad guy" was out and they lived to tell the tale! This was my 1st book by Stacie Gray but will not be my last!
