Με προβλημάτισε λίγο το βιβλίο.

Πολύ δυνατό αλλά και πολύ επαναλήψιμο σε αρκετά σημεία.
Οκ το "μα τον αληθινό Θεό..." πες ότι το συνήθισα από κάποιες σελίδες και μετά αλλά γενικά είχα κάπως την αίσθηση ότι ακόμα και κεφάλαια επαναλήφθηκαν.
Οι δε τελευταίες σελίδες δεν μου άφησαν την αίσθηση που μου άφησε όλο το υπόλοιπο βιβλίο, δεν τις κατάλαβα και ιδιαίτερα ενώ ότι ο Αλφά πέθανε το συνειδητοποίησα μόνο μέσα από το επίμετρο της μεταφράστριας.

Heart wrenching, harrowing and sad. The narrative conveys the confusing, isolating and pointless experience of war. Repetitive and poetic. Shocking extended metaphor of a woman’s body but it is so powerful precisely because the metaphor is so vulgar and shocking. War, is vulgar and shocking. The repetition makes the reader feel shell shocked too as they take on his trauma/ madness.

A gruesome tale of a young man from Africa fighting for France in WWI. It is unrelenting in how horrifying war is. To put it plainly, the main character loses his mind after his best friend and more-than-brother dies in no man's land.

It is written in a very poetic way, almost like someone writing a journal entry about these events. It is beautifully written even if the content is disturbing.
