you can tell why this won the international booker. the prose and by extension the translation of that was so different to what is expected of books in the english literary canon. but this is what makes it so engaging. even though it’s a fairly straight forward plot Diop still managed to keep me guessing and move around within the story with nuance and creativity. would read it again.
