A very fun space adventure with engaging characters (even if the "I'm responsible for everyone and everything all the time" refrain did get a little tired)

There is a LOT of representation in this book. There are multiple LGBTQIA+ characters, a trans character, and the main five characters all have different racial backgrounds and religions (including Muslim rep) There are also multiple characters that suffer with anxiety.
This book is an easy space story that I flew through rather quickly. However, the writing did throw me out just a bit. I found the main characters funny, quirky, and relatable to 14 year old me. The story starts out with four of the main characters waiting to head back to Earth being “washed out” of Ellis Station Academy. Things go horribly awry and they are left to use their skills to figure their lives out from there. I did find the characters rather convenient but otherwise I loved them.
The story moved quickly and I was never bored. I found The Disasters extremely realistic in an almost horrifying way (it being 2019 the antagonist of this story didn’t surprise me a bit). Everything had a motivation for it was happening and the reader isn’t left questioning the story, there are some things that are blatantly foreshadowed but it is more of a side eye “this thing is going to come back” rather than predictability.
Overall I gave The Disasters a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars.

This was a super fun quick space adventure. An unlikely group of young adults finds themselves stuck together after being rejected from the prestigious space academy. What they thought would be a depressing trip home, turns into a nightmare where they find themselves the only witnesses to a crime. A crime that will have a huge negative impact on the galaxy if it goes unchecked.
Graphic: Death, Panic attacks/disorders, Violence, and Blood

This was a fast read because DAMN was it fun! I mean it has freakin space battles which is an automatic win in my books!
Would recommend this to anyone who’s a fan of lighthearted space action.
