This book was hella cute and I definitely was getting emotional at the end. But some of the stuff in the middle was TOO dramatic for me. I don’t know if that was on purpose because of the ‘world’ that it inhabits, you know, Hollywood and such. But it just felt a little too dramatic.

The internalized misogyny in the Jimenez books I've read have officially put me off any of her stuff now. The fact that she cannot write any side female characters that aren't referred to as "crazy" or "bitches" is too much to be forced to slog through. The Lola character and the way every other character talks about her made me cringe at first and then just finally pissed me off. The fact that she was compared to Lohan who we know now was exploited just makes it even more clear that Jimenez has some stuff to work through when it comes to women.

I really appreciated that this book didn't make Sloan and Jason's budding relationship easy. They were coming from very different situations, points in life, and circumstances. It was nice to see their bond grow and develop as they faced different milestones in their relationship - and I think it was appropriate to see that it wasn't always easy and required a lot of compromise on both sides. Overall this book was full of lots of entertaining twists and turns.

READ THE FRIEND ZONE FIRST. That’s super important to understand the growth of Slaone, the FMC. I felt silly how much I giggled and swooned over Jason. I loved their meet-cute it was so unique. And the stakes were so much higher than a normal romcom and thank god the miscommunication trope wasn’t the big breakup factor at play.
Ugh this author really knows how to tug at the emotional heartstrings, both the heart-melting and breaking ones.

Be aware of the grief of losing a romantic partner is a big theme in this one and the one before it, if that’s personally challenging.
