This book was a quick read that kept me guessing. I always appreciate that quality in a psychological thriller, especially since this is my favorite genre. I would compare this to French`s Broken Harbor or Moriarty`s The Husband`s Secret. This author`s use of consistent dependent clauses affected the flow of the language for me. I did enjoy the switching of points of view from the narrator, Kate, and Rosie, slowly revealing to the reader how she was killed, which is somewhat reminiscent of Susie Salmon`s narration in The Lovely Bones. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys suspenseful thrillers and finds the dynamic of family secrets interesting.
This book was okay. I figured out fairly soon who had killed Rosie, but kept reading to find out how and why. The one thing I couldn't figure out about this novel is why was Kate even involved. Kate is the narrator of the story and only knew Rosie and her family in a superficial way. They were acquaintances, not friends. Yet Kate is the main character who becomes very involved in the whole situation. There were other things that made me shake my head, small inconsistencies and other characters who appeared and yet really had nothing to do with anything, like Laura. I did like that the author kind of told the background to the story through Rosie, who appears in the book like a ghost and reveals bits and pieces of her past. Not a bad book, but not great either.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I love a good crime novel.
Although it was slightly predictable in some instances. I still really enjoyed it.

I enjoyed this murder mystery. While the author took pains to keep the killer's identity a secret, I believe the careful reader will figure it out rather early; I know I did. Not that it matters. The slow reveal is told in alternating viewpoints, one of which is from beyond the grave and seems to enjoy a rather omniscient perspective given the spirit's identity. Death is mysterious, though, so perhaps a victim of murder is granted insight into their killer's life as a way of helping them move on into the great hereafter. It certainly helps build empathy and compassion for someone many would view as a monster.
There's a lot I'd like to say about this book but, alas, I also wish to avoid spoilers.
