Questa seconda opportunità a Goethe sembrava esser partita bene, ho apprezzato la prima parte delle Affinità Elettive, ma non sono riuscita a cogliere la maestria invece denotata nell'introduzione di Chiusano, poiché la seconda parte mi ha per lo più annoiata, tanto che neanche le varie finali dipartite mi hanno mossa, e quindi nel complesso il libro mi è sembrato come della pasta senza sale.

Durante la lettura delle Affinità Elettive l'impressione avuta è che fosse maggiormente non un "inno al matrimonio", cosa che certamente è anche, ma le varie considerazioni dell'autore stesso in bocca ai suoi personaggi, in quanto ogni volta che qualcuno parlava, sapevo di star per leggere una forma di insegnamento sull'argomento in questione...questo, a lungo andare, mi ha fatto percepire il libro più come una raccolta di citazioni, che come un romanzo.
Ho adorato però la spiegazione sulle affinità elettive e le repliche dei grandi quadri, e a dispetto delle aspettative ho trovato in Ottilie il personaggio che ho più apprezzato, assieme a quello dell'architetto.

Come già espresso da un'altra recensione(quella di igalpress), sfortunatamente è stata una delle più belle scritture che abbia mai letto.

Mi è piaciuto molto come libro devo dire; nonostante i temi abbastanza impegnativi come lo è il matrimonio, la sua distruzione attraverso il nuovo amore, la tenacia di non lasciarsi andare alle passioni, o abbandonarvisi completamente - nonostante questi temi, è stato davvero godibile da leggere. Preferisco sempre I Dolori del Giovane Werther; questo romanzo è stato comunque rilassante nella sua tragedia, e la scrittura e le descrizioni di Goethe sono una garanzia, un pittore romantico letteralmente.
Voto: 4/5, una piacevole sorpresa, nonostante lo avessi interrotto all'inizio appena ho ripreso è sceso giù molto bene.

A fantastically brilliant novel about relationships and human weakness. Goethe, as always, is pure genius, as he puts characters in difficult situations and consistently allows them to make the worst possible decisions, then follows them through the consequences. The true success here, though, is how little judgment the reader finds himself able to pass. Goethe's characters, flawed though they certainly are, never come off as anything less than justified, leaving the reader to ponder the difference between right action and justified action. A pleasantly heart-rending novel.
