Been in a bit of a reading slump so I did not get far into this one. I am still very interested in reading this so I will be picking this back up again in the future.

I love that this book was about maters and shifters (kinda, the shifter thing is actually a bit more complicated in this book), but omg it was so also high-key problematic af?? And listen, when it comes to shifter romances, especially when there's true mates involved I am expecting some toxic/problematic romance but this book kinda took it too far at times, imo. Like, Sal kinda gave me psycho vibes and not the good kind. He really said that would let her choose if she wanted to be with him or not but then in the same breath said if she said no, he would move to be wherever she was for the rest of his life...just casually creeping. Also, this book was long af and had way too much inner monolgoue and description for my taste. I honestly had to start skimming after a while because it was taking away from my enjoyment and making me lost interest in the book.

Don't get me wrong, I did like this book and I will probably read the second book. I loveee the diversity of this world and that it's infused in latinx culture with latinx characters. That alone will keep me coming back!

Overall, I enjoyed this book. It was definitely a unique experience and I will probably check out more stories by this author. I wanted this to be a fave, but a good number of elements didn't hit for me. So I'm giving it 3/5 ⭐⭐⭐

What I liked:

✅ Diverse representation FTW: curvy FMC, latines, dark phenotypes, multiple languages

The MMC is abusive and insufferable. FMC going from one abusive life to another, I just can’t. Especially
the way he leaves her the first time they have sex- handcuffed to the bed, losing circulation, blood pooling under her from 8-12 puncture marks? And just left her because she wouldn’t be manipulated into saying she was his? Absolutely not.

Well I had the book on Kindle but its no longer free and a girl aint got it like that yet.

Xochtil grudgingly accepts a job in El Salvador, just hoping for a break from the pressures of a domineering mother and “fiancé”. Little did she know her future was waiting for her on the beach.
I’m not really reading spicy books these days, this would have been 5 stars for me 10 years ago. Even with the on page spuce, I was sucked into the story and wanted to know if Xochtil and Sal would end up together.
