The book was ok the pacing of the story felt rushed like the climax came to soon. I found Lei and Wrens relationship cute but I wish more time was dedicated to building it up the romance felt really sudden. As for the other paper girls I wished there was more time spent on fleshing them out thr book doesnt really explore much of who they are..

The gist 📚: Lei is taken from her village and made to serve as a concubine to the king as one of his Paper Girls. Her resolve to free herself of the situation solidifies when she falls in love. I enjoyed this book.

For readers looking for 💕: a vivid fantasy world, a harem genre story, political intrigue, fighting oppression, kick-ass Heroins, and queer romance. 

My thoughts 💭 The world is vivid and reminded me of Daughter of Smoke and Bone because of the human/demon denizins of the world. There were prominent aspects I didn't enjoy, though. The climax also didn't quite feel earned, which really took away from the whole experience for me.

Amazing representation of the LGBTQIA+ community with a diverse cast of Asian characters  set in a interesting fantasy world. Be weary that it covers the topic of rape and recovery from SA so be careful if that is a trigger for you.

the demon king does not receive any redemption and is portrayed as a villain throughout the whole series
