I had been wanting to read this for a long time and never ended up getting around to it even after I preordered the English localization. I'm glad I decided none of my other books matter because I really enjoyed this. There were times I definitely didn't understand a word of what was happening, but it's okay because I figured it out later on. (Maybe.) I'm very curious to see where the story goes

Oh this was a delight to read! I love the dynamic between Shen Zechuan and Xiao Chiye SO MUCH!

I feel I went into this with too high expectations. I saw someone say this was better than Golden Terrace and while it is very good, it’s not at the level of Golden Terrace yet (and the set up is very Nirvana in Fire - which is no bad thing)
Having said that, I really enjoyed this. I loved all the politics and court intrigue - that’s always a fave of mine.
There are A LOT of secondary characters and I’m so glad for the character guide at the back because otherwise I’d never have kept track of everyone.
I enjoyed both Shen Zechuan and Xiao Chiye as individual characters. I’m still not sure about them together.

finishing this book was like…releasing the string of a bow. so much tension finally released. also shen zechaun deserves all kinds of love.
