so much political plot is happening i have no idea where this could go….i will say i expect xiao chiye’s father or brother to die eventually for plot reasons & to thrust xiao chiye into a leadership position in libei….also vol 1 ending right there with hate sex is hilarious
This is one of the best enemies to lovers Danmei I've read! Don't let the beginning put you off from reading! I love the way the author describe every one of the characters, each had their motives, no one was really right or wrong.

There were so many things I loved about this book. THIS...this is the ultimate enemies to lovers story!!
The political intrigue, plot and worldbuilding were both very good.
The sexual tension between the main characters, Shen Zechuan and Xiao Chiye were mixed with the perfect blend of strong hatred that they had for one another.
The two are meant to be sworn enemies, both hating one another and wanting one another dead. Of course, while spending time hating one another and squaring each other up, they also learn to understand one another and begin to form a deeper connection.
I will admit that the politics in this one was very confusing and the overall world took time to get used to as i continued reading. But it was still a very enjoyable story overall.

If you like annotating books, THIS IS THE ONE. I read this as a web novel after purchasing the Chinese version and the amount of information I was putting in my notes app was ridiculous (but I love that). Every character, clan, location, and group/organization is important to the story and will come into play at some point. I was very pleased with Seven Seas translation except one name change- “Embroidered Uniform Guard” replacing “Imperial Bodyguard” felt a little strange to me.
This is just the beginning of a beautiful, complex story with one of the most satisfying endings I’ve ever read. Shen Zechuan and Xiao Chiye have my whole heart and I find myself thinking about them just as much as Hualian and Wangxian ♥️

I consider this a masterpiece that has it all- amazing characters, world building, politics, military genius, drama, romance, plot twists, and betrayals. It's basically a Chinese fantasy Game of Thrones but better IMO.
