I really admire the author's ability and willingness to tackle complicated people and complicated issues while so completely refraining from cliché. Each of the people represented is shown through their actions and she helpfully and beautifully doesn't give us little descriptive hints of how we're supposed to think about them. Singular people, singularly represented.

The author is really funny and has a way with words. I kept reading parts aloud to my wife. The entire chapter "Dinner with the Bishop" is amazing. I also really related to her feelings about leaving the Catholic church as a former Catholic.
There were a couple of points where I honestly couldn't understand what she was trying to say. A few of the sentences were confusing, and some of the metaphors and descriptions didn't make much sense to me. Some parts of the book were a little slower and less interesting than others.

author buries her deep trauma and dark reflections in a swamp of one-liners about priestcore, assrock, and "hordes of wild MILFs roaming the countryside," and i loved every single second of it
