Loved this book. This one felt similar to Matrix by Lauren Goff just the way it followed a woman through her life, I loved that. I wasn’t expecting the book to keep growing, but it did. The last chapter was delicious and
made me hope to live again. I have been feeling idk less than thrilled to be alive, but I will swim in the words she wrote so beautifully about savoring growing old. I can’t wait to grow old with my beautiful love.

I really enjoyed this book! I think getting to know Circe more intimately and engaging in her story as one piece instead of the fragments created an engaging and creative 400 pages. Circe is both likable and unlikable, blunt and evasive, rude and considerate, caring and unfeeling, and selfish and selfless. She evolves from a naive doormat into a strong and wise witch. I wish I could give this 5 stars but it falls flat for me. I didn't need a battle or a death but I feel like the disconnect from other characters and how flat everyone else seemed made it hard to care about the ending. I dislike comparing books (especially when they aren't actually connected) but, after reading Millers other greek retelling, this feels like an emotional let down. Not sure if my expectations were too high or if this just didn't deliver.

I don’t know a lot about Greek mythology, but this was still wonderful to read! I adore the author’s wording, and I think the descriptive language is really beautiful. I found the protagonist very compelling, and I especially enjoyed the depictions of Aiaia - both of its environment and its animals (I would very much like to live there).

One thing that weighs this down a little is the fact that large portions of the story overly focus on so many men. I also couldn’t help feeling as though it was missing sapphic elements (but that might just be me as I tend to prefer books with lesbians…) Maybe I’m asking too much of a retelling; perhaps it could’ve benefited from a reimagining instead.

Overall, though, this was a really lovely read! Definitely recommend even if you also aren’t well versed in Greek mythology lore.

The writing of this book is beautiful. That said, I did struggle significantly with the first half of this book—the sadness and the callousness and patriarchy are not fun to read even if they are necessary for the narrative and understanding Circe’s background. Circe becoming a more central figure in her own story helped draw me in more to the second half.
