There's no plot, just the story of the witch Circe beyond her encounter with Odysseus. It started off very rich and atmospheric and just dripping with Ancient Greek Mythology vibes, and I liked it quite a bit. Then Circe's priorities shifted from navigating the worlds of gods and mortals and understanding and perfecting her power to something entirely different (and possibly a spoiler):
She decided she wanted to have a child, and seeing her have that child just reminded me of all the reasons I never want to have kids.
The first 60%-ish is fantastic, and then things changed and I just didn't care anymore.

So very good. I finished in the early hours of the morning after reading all day and it made me cry very hard. An amazing book.

Now I understand why many people recommend this book and the author. I found it super original and beautiful in both the narrative and the use of lesser-known aspects of Greek culture and myths, especially the way in which the novel is divided. The fact that we learn about Circe's life through the compilation of various tales reminds me of the way in which various myths are written/passed down.

Well it certainly is a Greek story. Lots of uh incest and SA…. It was an interesting read but I prefer Song if Achilles
