Sofia, if you're reading this please infodump to me about how close it matches the myth. Just as enchanting as SoA, but it felt more familiar, more intimate. Something about a woman, even a divine one, making her way and building her home and herself is always going to resonate with me. I think Penelope got a pretty sweet deal, I would also like to be given a beautiful island home and a pride of tame lions.

Fantasy is not my favorite genre, but I enjoyed revisiting my college Greek Mythology classes via this story.

A great story of a strong woman but polish translation makes it hard to read. First half of the book is quite boring and hard to get through which I think is due to the translation.

Lovely written. Circe is a great character and we move with her through her centuries of being immortal. She is a goddess but painted very humanlike, we read of her pain, anger, hopes, joy, shame and grieves. Her thriumps and mistakes. It's not plot driven but definitely just about her life and character development. It was a good read, wasn't boring, kept it interesting.

Madeline Miller evolves her craft with Circe in a way that is both a spiritual continuation of the Song of Achilles, while also being a completely independent narrative on its own. The pantheon and characters of Greek legend are all written very well, beginning as their one-note idealized selves, and turning into multi-faceted characters by the novel's end. A pleasure as always. 8/10.

This book is absolutely phenomenal. Beautiful prose, stunning descriptions. It carries some heavy emotional themes/lessons, but does so in a way that’s awe inspiring.
