I don't agree with all of his views and they're not offensive - which one has to worry about with some comedians. Mitchell is funny (in an angry way), very observant and knows his way around words and I really enjoy his rants though he does jump from topic to topic which... relatable but sometimes hard to follow.
This is fine as an audiobook for listening to when you are doing other things (like cooking), and in small chunks. It's largely a collection of newspaper columns from 2008 - 2014, and requires a knowledge of UK politics and culture of the time to fully be appreciated. Unfortunately, though they are funny, they are also very dated, reminding us wistfully of a time when the things we had to worry about were only the global financial crash and meercats. This was a time before Brexit and Covid-19, and when the idea of Trump or Johnson as world leaders was merely an amusing punchline. Great at the time, but hasn't remained particularly relevant.
DNF at 11%. A very little man who seems to know far less than he thinks he does.

It pains me to say it, because I love David Mitchell, but this book was just a bit too whingey. I am well aware that the title and cover of the book warned me that he would be moaning in it, but some topics seemed a bit over moaned if that makes sense. It was the same old story, politicians, technology. I expected Mitchell to be more surprising. However it was a good funny holiday read, I guess I just had too high expectations and some chapters I actually had to skip because the topics weren't relevant to me.
My rating is for the first 2 chapters only because that’s all I could manage.
I listened to the audiobook narrated by the man himself and normally I find him hilarious; but this book was horrendous to listen to. The same tortured metaphors repeated numerous times to the point of exhaustion and David ranting about Brexit with absolute venom was enough to send me reaching for the off button at the fist available opportunity. If I hadn’t been listening whilst driving I would have switched it off sooner.

It's cute, gave me a few good chuckles but just didn't keep me interested till the end.
