I like a man with command of an extensive vocabulary, and if he is funny, too, then so much the better. I like David Mitchell, but this book showed me that I like him in small doses (it ended up going back to the library before I could finish it). Clever and funny it may be but complaining about stuff is still complaining and it became rather wearing. Being a collection of his newspaper columns, some of the topics have unavoidably become dated, too, which left me scrabbling around trying to remember what he was talking about. Sorry, David; bookworm I may be, but I prefer you on TV.

I listened on audio. It was a perfect audiobook as I could dip in and out as the "chapters" are essays (rants) on things that interest (really, really bug) the author. If you find him funny (I do), you'll enjoy this a lot.

Could be taken for the ravings of a madman. But the madman is David Mitchell so it was a lot of fun. A great filler book.

As others have said before, the material itself is now dated, however if that doesn't bother you, the phrasing is great and very entertaining.

Don't think this really works as an audiobook! All blends into one and while not without its laughs, it starts to feel like an AI generated David Mitchell performance.

Very entertaining, sometimes completely out of the blue commentary of David Mitchell and his views.

I disagreed with some, agreed with others and found myself un-opinionated by most. I genuinely thought this book would be funnier - my husband always praises Mitchell as the best comedian so maybe my hopes and expectations were too high.

Pleasant enough though - and listening to the book was also insightful as Mitchell himself narrates the audible version.

Preachy and annoying!

I gave it several chapters but decided not to waste any more of my time on something I wasn’t enjoying.
