Neighbors had a strong beginning but I think the ending fell flat for me. I enjoyed reading about Meredith White's life and all of the challenges she faced and the friendships built due to an earthquake. However, I felt like the last couple of chapters were rushed and there weren't much depth to them. Overall, it was a pretty good book and I would read another Danielle Steel Book.

Thank you Netgalley and Penguin Random Random House for this gifted copy.

Thank you NetGalley.

Filled with powerful human dramas, Neighbors is a penetrating look at how our world can be upended in a moment. In a novel of unforgettable characters and stunning twists, acts of love and courage become the most powerful forces of all.

This one hit so many of the marks I set for a must read. I loved the characters and the story. I needed more from Meredith.

Definitely not my favorite of hers. It was just ok. Also, the writing is so repetitious.
lighthearted medium-paced

Good for a light read.

DNF, I got 10% in and could not go on. Either DS has lost her touch or someone else wrote this! I've read a LOT od DS books in the past, this is not of the same calliber at all. In the short section I read, I heard how her daughter blamed her and became closer to her father, at least 5 times. Extremely repetative! And the woman is grieving so she becomes completely clueless to what is going on around ner for 14 yrs?! Not at all realistic. Don't bother with this one.

Another good book by this author. While it's not my favorite by her it is also not my least favorite. I would give this one a 3.5 out of 5. I have been reading this author since I was a 11 or 12 year old and there are very few books of hers that I didn't enjoy. I will continue to read her books as she writes them. I think others will enjoy this book most of the characters are enjoyable and believable. The plot is believable for the most part.

This book was a slow start for me for a DS book. Lots of information thrown at you before the characters get into play.

I enjoyed the story though. An earthquake brings unlikely families together in friendships and romance. A good, easy read.

Not something I typically read, but it was a good story.

I received an advanced copy of this book.

As the book opens, we meet Meredith, a popular actress who has gone through some very hard struggles in her personal life. She has become a bit of a hermit in her home and relies on her help, Debbie & Jack, in all aspects of her life. However, we find that Debbie & Jack do not always have good intentions in their help and work.

A huge earthquake hits and Meredith finally goes outside of her gates to meet her neighbors and then welcome them in to her house. Debbie & Jack are appalled and threatened, but the neighbors all have interesting backgrounds and stories themselves. A man named Peter eventually stops by the house to check on everyone, and a romance begins between him and Meredith. We continue to learn more about him and all of the neighbors as they move on after the earthquake.

Overall, this story felt a bit clunky. Some story lines were shorter than I expected and the overall direction of the book didn't flow as I expected it.

I am always amazed whenever I read a new novel written by Danielle Steel. She has written a plethora of novels over the years and yet still is able to come up with fresh ideas with dynamic characters and situations! I was a little lost at the beginning of Neighbors because I felt like the set up was too chaotic and quick with lots of names, characters, and background all thrown at the reader all at once, but then it settled down and was actually an intriguing read that was hard to put down. I read before I fall asleep every night and I found myself staying up very late when reading this one. I just did not want to stop! There were realistic characters with real life situations, with some glamorous icons and lifestyles intertwined, as is normal for Danielle Steel, and a multitude of drama! As I read the last sentence, the first thing that came to my mind when I was thinking about what to write for the review was “and they all lived happily ever after... thanks to the aftermath of a horrific earthquake...”
