This story is CHILLING. Lots of twists, some interesting commentary on how women are viewed in relation to crime and the role media plays in sensationalizing crime stories.

I loved the twists and turns in this book and how all the pieces fit together in the end. The character development was satisfying and written very realistically.

I didn’t like the paranormal aspects of the book and found that portion unbelievable. Otherwise, I love the author’s writing style and the atmosphere she creates.

This book offers: a ghost story, a true crime fan protagonist, and the elusive femme fatale.

Not for me, reasons in spoilers just in case.

I was very turned off by the hyperfixation on female sexuality as a threat especially since it was about the "beautiful waif blonde" who no one could ever believe was dangerous!! *bats eyes*

As a black femme, I am often treated as a threat despite my femininity so all the proto-feminist "but women can murder toooo" made me really upset and the focus over and over and over on White Beauty was annoying at best and distracting fluff that took away from any building tension at worst.

It took me some time to get into the book, but I'm glad I stuck with it! I was always eager to read on, especially with each new tidbit.

I liked the characters and their complicated, interwoven feelings for one another. In my opinion, the romantic connections were given more development than in Sun Down Motel, which enhanced Book of Cold Cases. I was very surprised that Beth didn't nab
her detective!

The one thing that bothered me was how often the female murderer/s were described as 'sexy.' I love a foxy, morally-gray woman, but it doesn't need to be a constant reminder. Otherwise, a good, intriguing read.

I wanted to like this book a lot more than I did. It was just good enough for me to want to finish but I didn't love it. Writing was mediocre. Not a fan of paranormal stuff so I was surprised and put off when it showed up in the story.

Was disappointed in this after reading the Sundown Motel. The plot was predictable and the atmosphere just wasn't there. Also, the characters are very same-y. You'll see lots of parallels between this and Sundown, but it's definitely the lesser of the two, and those parallels aren't always there in good ways. A lot of the characters are similar and their stories even end in similar ways.
