Everyone is seriously, genuinely stupid, and annoying. But congratulations for the happy ending i guess

I've only ever loved the princess and the lady. And everyone else who works at the castle thx

This book is like a bowl of popcorn, not mind blowing but comforting when you want something easy and predtictable (in a good way!) Great for a vacation read

So This Is Ever After is a light-hearted, funny fantasy romcom full of sarcasm. A story where the main purpose is to have a good laugh without having too much to think about.

The writing is simple, the plot is simple, there is no real worldbuilding and the story take place in one sole setting, the castle.

The story still tackles some more serious topics half through the book, like the Imposter syndrom or the fear of the future but beside that, it isn't particularly deep and stay mostly fairy-tale like.

I would even say that it comes across as a parody at times, or even a satire even if I don't think it was necessarily the goal of the author when writing this book.

☆

A detail I definitely liked is the general rpg vibe I got from it when I first started reading.
I knew it wasn't gonna be my best read of the year as I still prefer more complex  plots, however comedy is generally something I do enjoy as it possesses this kind of simplicity that makes it easily read.

Due to this first impression the book gave me, I largely preferred the first half of the story. I was excepting something amusing all along, and not some sudden drama while nothing was especially deep whether it was the plot or the characters.

On the other hand, the constant miscommunication and misunderstandings of the two main characters, Arek and Matt, was in all honesty THE thing that annoyed the most. I understand that it was part of the plot but at some point it got extremely repetitive and near the end it truly became absurd how, despite some obvious proof of their love toward each others, both kept thinking their feelings weren't mutual.

3/5 ★

In short, your liking of the book will truly depends on what you're looking for and your expectations when picking it up. If you have in mind a complex plot with some touch/a lot of humour like Gideon the Ninth, this book isn't gonna be for you. If, on the contrary, you like a good comedy with not that much of a plot but that will make you laugh, then there's a higher chance you're gonna enjoy it!
