Natsuo Kirino

3.66 AVERAGE

another natsuo kirino book touching on the ills of japanese society, once again with a focus on the women's struggles underneath a sexist society and where it can drive them, how it shifts them. i enjoy being able to get a glimpse of different moments through different perspectives, the contradictions of each character, but even then it isn't my favorite work of natsuo kirino's. i don't know if it's the translation, but the writing wasn't getting to me this time around.

This was a book club book & nobody was a fan. The translation wasn't very good, the main character was hard to identify with & the story was bizarre.

A book full of contradictions that you can’t help but get swept up in. I love piecing together information and I love multiple versions of events told from different point of views. There was so much unreliability that I don’t really know what was real but I liked that and I liked trying to deduce what was the truth. It was interesting reading about sex work in Japan and I’m curious if it is accurate.

I did liked this book and I think Kirino is quite good to write compelling character and their psyche however it's so long, at the end of the book I was too bored to care

I'm not sure why I finished this book. I guess you could say it's well written? I don't know...Every character in this book is entirely unsympathetic and loathsome.
