This book was a disappointment. I didn’t hate it but didn’t really like it either. It takes awhile to pick up and the sections of Misery Returns were long and irrelevant to the actual plot. Very tense with well done suspense.

as with most Stephen King, it could have ended 50 pages earlier and the "creepiness" relies heavily on "gross-out" rather than true terror or horror.

Gruesome and full of psychopathy, an absolute twister and a story that maintains its sense of terror throughout. Annie’s mental unraveling peeling away simultaneously with Paul’s hope of actually living is displayed well. King is truly the king of descriptors…

As my second Stephen King read, Misery had a lot to live up to considering how much I loved The Shining and although I wasn't *quite* as obsessed, nor did I devour it quite as quickly, it was pretty damn good. Sure, it was a hell of a lot more gruesome but once again, I found myself enraptured with King's prose, quite literally on the edge of my seat, quite literally gasping aloud (and probably startling a few people on my morning train), silently willing Paul Sheldon to escape from that goddamn house! So, although it's not quite up there with the spooks of The Overlook for me, Annie Wilkes' Colorado farmhouse not only frightened me half to death but it also surely cemented my love of Stephen King.
