Feels mean to rate it three stars since it's unfinished, but still. Unfortunately missing his usual magic turns of phrase. RIP Terry.

Maybe it's because I haven't read any of the other stories in the Tiffany Aching series or maybe it's because, as Roy Wilkins mentions in his Afterword, "The Shepard's Crown has a beginning, a middle, and an end, all the bits in between. Terry wrote all of those. But even so, it was, still, not quite as finished as he would have liked when he died.", but this didn't feel like a Discworld book. I was expecting more of Pratchett's dry British wit. His off-kilter characters. His commentary on contemporary times.

It was an enjoyable story. It just seemed to be missing something extra. Something that would make it feel like a true Pratchett Discworld novel. I think that's why I set the book down for a few weeks in the middle of reading it. Something I've not done when reading Pratchett books in the past.

feels sadly incomplete, especially towards the end, which is inevitable given the circumstances under which it was written and published. that being said, thematically this is a fitting final book, both in the discworld series and in pratchett’s bibliography. GNU terry pratchett :((

This whole series w/Tiffany Aching is terrific. Ivy and I loved listening to all of them.

The Shepherd's Crown by Sir Terry Pratchett.

Raising Steam was a triumphant tour of the Disc, a grand ending. This is verymuch an epilogue. It's more focused, looking to the future, more personal, more direct. It's a final treatise on how to be human, how to be better, how to evolve, how to live, how anger can be a sharp tool driven by a need to make the world a better place, how it can be used as a positive force.

If you've been saving this book, now is the time to read it, to let its raw power wash over you & get inside you, to fuel you.

GNU Sir Terry, & thank you.

Ah the last Disc World novel. It is not his best as you can tell that Terry wasn't finished. However, it is still well worth reading and is a fitting end to the series.
The fact that he managed to finish 5 novels after being announcing that he had been diagnosed with a nasty form of early onset alzheimer's is nothing short of miraculous.

It was definitely less polished than his other books- not that the story is incomplete or unsatisfying, just in that I’m sure if Terry had the chance he would have made it 500% wittier. But what a send-off for Tiffany Aching, and Discworld as a whole- I’m not sure there could be a better final book. I’ll miss them.
