You can tell it's incomplete — there are rough and abrupt bits, unpolished or undeveloped — but what's there tells a compelling story with a cast of familiar characters.
GNU Terry Pratchett, we lost you too soon.

Choosing stars for this one was hard, because it's Pratchett's last book, and that means I want to give it all the stars. But compared to books he wrote and edited in full, with his full capacity, it can't really stand up.
Basically this is an early draft without the hilarious dialogue and gorgeous prose he was so good at. So it's mostly nostalgic and sad, with hints of brilliance shining through.
If you have yet to dive into the Discworld, get on it. Pratchett was a gift. And so are his books.
We miss you.

The very last Terry Pratchett (which is why it received an extra star!) in which some very surprising things happen, like
The book itself was a wee bit rough but the overall idea was wonderful and I think it was a very fitting ending to a wonderful career.
One of my favorite authors ever!

The previous Tiffany Aching novels have all been great. This one, unfortunately, is an unfinished work — Pratchett died before he could fully finish and polish it. And the unfinished nature detracts from it.
I commend the story for opening with a huge development: the death of Granny Weatherwax. The rest of the story follows Tiffany as she deals with the consequences, both in daily life and with a renewed threat from the elves.
The story is interesting in bits and pieces, but you can tell that it is not a cohesive whole yet. It would have been nice to see it fully finished by Pratchett.

Of all the Discworld books that I have read, I have had a special fondness for the Tiffany Aching books. This book was a wonderful way to say goodbye to new books in the series as we get to see Tiffany come into her own as Witch.
There were wonderful understory lessons throughout the book... the idea of roles people play - be it perceived gender roles, perceived societal roles, or other roles we are expected to play in our lives.
I cannot say what moved me about this book to like it so much. Perhaps it was knowing that this is the last book Sir Terry wrote. Perhaps it just came to me at the right moment. Regardless, this was an enjoyable book.
Though, unlike other Discworld books, you really do need to have read at least the first 4 Tiffany Aching books to get the full story.

It is very plain from the very beginning that this was not written by Pratchett. The elements of the story was probably his, but was lacking that particular type of jovial bantering narration that made you devour his books. It's a farewell to his characters as well as his readers, which I'm grateful to have read.
Granny is Terry. There are some big boots to fill.

I haven't read all of Pratchett's books and thought we'd save this one for last. Until it showed up on the available books list at our local library.
I grabbed it up & didn't put it down until it was all done. Awesome.

3.5 stars rounded up
I think I subconsciously didn't want to read this because it's pretty much the last book to come from Pratchett (even if he did have help).
It was a lovely wrap up and definitely made me nostalgic for the Discworld stories.

The Tiffany Aching Books are among my favorite books by Terry Pratchett. Especially "I shall wear midnight". For some reason(s) I had a hard time with this one. Maybe because of the knowledge that there will be no more? Maybe because of an event early in the story that I am having a hard time coping with? Maybe because it seems less finished and rounded than the other volumes in the series? It is still a great book, and I am glad and thankful he was able to finish it. But oh the sorrow, that I will never know more. There can never be enough of Terry Pratchett.
