This one falls under "wanted to love". Standalone story all about Hester? SOLD. Standalone story all about Wilde? SIGN ME UP. But having both of them together derailed the book for me - a testament to their strength as characters, I think! But it made the story feel like it was trying to do too much.

This was a good thriller. I didn't anticipate all the turns the book would take, and I found myself invested in this Wilde character. Looking forward to book 2 in this series.

Enjoyable with a few more touches of social commentary than usual and a few more seemingly unanswered questions.

Several of the characters that I wanted to like just seemed kind of flat and not very believable.

Plenty of action to enjoy.

Приятна кримка, в която се вясват някои от култовите герои на Харлан Коубън. Чете се лесно.

3.5 stars.
This book is nothing like I expected at all. I expected it to be more about Wilde, but there were so many other connections to other different people sometimes it was confusing. I think all the political issues were not really necessary in this book and for so long it was just so repetitive. The tapes, Naomi, the tapes, Naomi. I liked the twists at the end, but I am not sure how I feel about the exact ending.

Leuk verhaal voor tussendoor, maar moest het wel echt van het einde hebben.

This was a fast-paced book and the first I've read of Harlan Coben's. The premise was quite interesting - with a boy who essentially raised himself in the woods, was found as a teenager, and is now an adult as the central character. However, this actually had very little to do with the main plot line of the book, which ended up being a very complicated tale of politics, classism, and blackmail, which was kind of disappointing to me. I appreciated the various twists at the end and loved the ending of the book, but overall, wasn't a huge fan of the story itself. If I could give 3.5 ⭐'s I would.
