I originally read this book because I wanted to create a character that was based on this book but I got pretty invested in it. It was a good short read that I was able to finish in between assignments. At first, I was a little confused on the narrator and who it really was but as the book progressed, it got cleared up. But anyways, it was a good book! Really liked the confusing relationship between Carmen and Don Jose :3

I love it when men in literature blame their incompetence in some woman like " she bewitched me i had no choice" when they did in fact have a choice

Очень атмосферно.
Примитивно и в то же время глубоко.
В итоге получается мудро, но не заумно.

Слегка наивна итоговая "справка про цыган" но тоже в общем-то все очень разумно.

Уж не знаю, каково было восприятие современников, для меня сейчас это милое и аутентичное историческое произведение.
В изложении человека, суждениям которого доверяешь. Я не про историческую достоверность. Наверняка сейчас найдутся матерые историки, которые лучше знают детали того времени, чем живший тогда человек, который реально видел только свое окружение, а об остальном мог делать предположения, далекие от действительности. Но в художественной литературе мы ищем не детали, а общий дух того времени.
