I read this having read and loved other books by this author and because I know my mom read it in the 90s. I liked the beginning, but the more it went on, the less I liked it. I could not stand any of the characters. I have never read Wuthering Heights and wonder if that is the reason for these characters being the way they are, but I found myself rooting for no one.

Don't bother. The story is horrible and not worth your time. Especially when it comes to cousin love.

This book was really good, and I liked it, but it was a bit too depressing for me. I think at the end I wanted to throw the book at the wall, even though it was a good book.

Another beautiful story by Alice Hoffman, though deeply sad. Her descriptions of places and especially of towns make me want to run away to some small place in New England, but also make me feel as though the place she is describing is all too familiar - the sign of a brilliant writer.

This book swept me in and I was transformed into the main character, March’s heart. I understand her deep blind love so clearly, how it overtakes you and how it can seem so unreasonable to everyone around you. I love all the definitions of love in this book and I also love how I read it during October and it was set in the fall, she so beautifully describes the natural living world in this town and you feel like you can smell the air there. I read this quickly and shed a few tears long the way. Anyone who has loved someone who others thought they should not will resonate so deeply with this book. I understand you March, I get it. Being loved that deeply and intensely is hypnotic.

It was difficult to read at times, but I couldn't stop thinking about this book for a long time after finishing.
